Office hours of the Consular Section

The office hours of the Consular Section are as follows: Monday to Thursday, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pmOn Fridays, the Consular Section is closed, except for document collection and appeal submission.

Collection of passports and documents is possible in the above mentioned office hours.

 

The Embassy is closed on the following public & national holidays. In 2024, holidays are expected as follows: 1 January, 15 March, 29 March, 1 April, 11 April, 1 May, 20 May, 12 June, 17 June, 19 August, 20 August, 1 October, 23 October, 1 November, 24-27 December.

Please note that only emergency service for Hungarian citizens is rendered on Hungarian holidays. Generally, the Consular Section is open on Nigerian holidays, unless another bank holiday is observed at the same time.

The Consular Section is closed on the last working day of each month.

 

Appointment booking

Consular services are strictly by appointment only  except for the following cases:

  • protection of the rights of Hungarian citizens
  • emergency passport for Hungarian citizens
  • certificate of life for Hungarian pensioners
  • mortal remains certificate 

 Appointments can be booked directly through our Appointment Booking System: https://konzinfobooking.mfa.gov.hu/home. Please select English as your language and Abuja as your Customer Service.

One person may book one appointment and one case type at a time. The booking is to be made for the name of the applicant (not the proxy, sponsor, agent etc.). All applicants are required to book their individual appointment for each of their cases, i.e. it is not allowed to book a single appointment for multiple applicants or for multiple cases. The Consular Section may delete any irregular appointments without further notice.

Applications may be submitted up to six months and at least 15 calendar days before the planned date of travel. The Consular Section is not obliged to accept applications submitted less than 15 days before the planned date of travel. Fast-tracking or expedited appointments and procedures are not available.

In case of an unannounced no-show, where the applicant does not cancel the appointment in time, any further appointments may be deleted without further notice.

Please make sure that you arrive in time for your appointment. Arriving late may result in prolonged waiting time or denial of entry past office hours.

Some cases may involve evaluation or decision-making in Hungary. The Consular Section does not have any jurisdiction over this part of the procedure and cannot provide any updates on the progress of cases processed in Hungary. Whenever updates are available or further action from the applicant or the Consular Section is required, an email notification will be sent to the contacts provided upon submission.

 

Case types available in the Konzinfo Booking System

“C” Visa

Choose this to apply for short term (up to 90 days) stay visa in Hungary, for e.g. business trips, visits or a conference. Please find more details on the Visa Information page.

 

“D” Visa

Choose this to apply for a residence permit in Hungary (stay of more than 90 days) for e.g. studies or work. Please find more details on the website of the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing under the “Residence in Hungary” tab.

 

Legalization

Only original documents issued by the Nigerian, Cameroonian, Beninese or Gabonese authorities and authenticated by the Nigerian, Cameroonian, Beninese or Gabonese Ministry of Foreign Affairs can be provided with diplomatic authentication by the Consular Section. Legalization of signature

Authenticating the signature of the client, made before the consular officer. Please find more details on the Authentication page.

 

Legalizing a translation

Authenticating the provided translation of a document, or translating a document from English to Hungarian and vice versa. Translation authentication may be part of another consular case, e.g. registration of birth or a certificate of good conduct. In these cases, a separate appointment for the translation is not required. Please find more details on the Authentication page.

Legalizing a copy

The consular section authenticates the copy brought by the client for which the presentation of the original document is required. Please find more details on the Authentication page.

Police certificate of good conduct
